Making Sense of the Financial Crisis
15 October 2009
Students from the Global Citizenship Programme went to a special event at the National Theatre on Monday hosted by comedian Mark Thomas.
Mark Thomas: A Comic Tries to Understand the Economic Crisis was an entertaining and educational evening which dealt with a very serious topic - how did the recent banking collapse happen? Thomas interviewed witnesses from the financial sector, academics and financial reform campaigners to try and make sense of the crisis.
A common theme from the evening's discussion was our role as citizens in shaping subsequent finance legislation. Should the banks work for themselves or society? Perhaps a possible topic for a Global Citizenship Action Group to work on in the future?
