Dr Lock research interests centre on the governance of science. Specifically he studies new technologies in society, the public understanding of science, public engagement with science and technology, and social and cultural representations of science.

Dr MacLehose is an expert in crossing cultures in the Medieval world, especially contact between Islamic and Christian cultures in Europe.
