Infrastructure development is not only a question of engineering but also one of multiple social and political interactions. The governance of infrastructure must therefore effectively engage with the diversity of perspectives that produce it.

This diversity is typically under-explored, and the implications for the ways by which we imagine, shape and live with infrastructure sidelined. This workshop brings together a range of disciplinary perspectives (including political science, engineering, science and technology studies and public policy) to envision contrasting trajectories for infrastructure development that sit beyond traditional economic rationalisation of infrastructure planning.

We will explore these themes by constructing a set of contrasting and dynamic narratives of infrastructure futures. These visions will be used as provocations in forthcoming dialogues with key infrastructure decision makers. We hope to challenge dominant narratives and reveal opportunities for more inclusive and collaborative approaches to serve as alternative justifications for investment.
