2016 STEaPP Internships Opportunities - Closing Date: 2 May 2016

UCL STEaPP is currently seeking 5 interns to participate in five of our core departmental research projects:

  1. Science Advice: The Relevance of IPCC, IPBES and Habitat III Assessment Practices for National and Local Decision-­making
  2. Science Diplomacy: The role of science, scientists and technology in shaping global governance
  3. Energy and Sustainability: Beyond SDGs: Creating a Database of National Development Goals
  4. Urban Policy: An Intergovernmental Panel for the New Urban Agenda
  5. Engineering Policy: Transforming the Engineering of Cities: A Gender Perspective

Skills and experience

Candidates should have, or be in progress of obtaining, a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area relating to one of the 5 projects.

Candidates must have knowledge of research techniques in social sciences, including conducting literature reviews, carrying out surveys and interviews. They should also be able to demonstrate the ability to analyse and present data and results in multi-­media formats and present complex information effectively to a range of audiences. With good interpersonal skills, candidates will be able to operate with confidence at an independent and collaborative level.

Experience in managing large datasets and databases of qualitative and quantitative information would be an advantage.

These represent the common skills and experience required for all projects. However, each project requires its own specific skills and these are outlined below (page 3) along with further detail on the projects themselves.

STEaPP interns are expected to participate fully in the department’s research community, and are welcome to attend a range of events within STEaPP, which can offer exposure to a range of academics and practitioners working on a variety of issues related to science advice and public policy.
