EU referendum: UCL Provost's message to students and staff

In light of the UK’s vote to leave the European Union, UCL President & Provost Professor Michael Arthur assures UCL students and staff from EU countries that they will continue to be as valued and as welcome as before. Professor Arthur also confirms that there will be no immediate changes to arrangements for EU staff and students.

Dr Ricardo Silva receives award from Adobe’s University Collaborations Program

Dr Ricardo Silva has received an unrestricted gift of $5,000 in support of his research activities from Adobe Research. Also included is a software donation of 5 membership licenses to Adobe’s Creative Cloud for a period of 2 years. Adobe Research describes the programme as aiming “to establish long-term relationships between academic and Adobe’s researchers for the purpose of increasing Adobe’s knowledge in technology areas relevant to Adobe’s business and strategic directions.”

UCL Statistical Science secures top ten position in Guardian 2017 university league tables

In the Guardian University Guide published earlier this week, UCL was the 7th highest ranked UK university in the subject area of Mathematics (which includes Statistical Science).

Dr Gareth Peters invited to mentor team in 3rd international financial mathematics team challenge, hosted in Cape Town University, South Africa

Dr Peters has been invited to prepare a financial mathematics challenge that he will mentor a team of PhD and MSc students to tackle and present findings for over a two week period from mid-June 2016 to July 2016 in Cape Town University , South Africa.

Paper selected as recipient of the 2015 Wiley-TIES Best Environmetrics Paper Award

A paper based on part of her UCL PhD thesis, by Dr Joanna Kaczmarska with co-authors Professor Valerie Isham and Dr Paul Northrop, has been selected as the recipient of the 2015 Wiley-TIES Best Environmetrics Paper Award. The paper "Local generalised method of moments: an application to point process-based rainfall models” appeared in Environmetrics (2015), 26, 312—325. The paper will be presented by Dr Northrop at the TIES 2016 meeting in Edinburgh, July 18-22nd

Professor Valerie Isham to give Bernoulli Lecture at 9th Bernoulli/IMS World Congress

Professor Valerie Isham will give the Bernoulli Lecture at the 9th Bernoulli/IMS World Congress in Probability and Statistics, to be held in Toronto from July 11th to 15th, 2016. The Lecture is awarded for outstanding contributions in applications in statistics or probability, and the title will be Applied Stochastic Modelling for Structured Physical Processes.
