Dr Pierre-André Maugis promoted to Senior Research Associate

The department wishes to congratulate Dr Pierre-André Maugis on his promotion to the role of Senior Research Associate. Dr Maugis joined the department after completing his PhD with the Applied Mathematics Laboratory, Sorbonne University, with his thesis work on "Dependence Models in High Dimensions". Pierre-André is working on developing nonparametric methods for network analysis, and is simultaneously leading the technology transfer of the UCL Big Data Institute.

New MSc in Health Economics and Decision Science

UCL will soon begin accepting applications for a new MSc in Health Economics and Decision Science, due to commence in September 2017. This Masters degree spans the disciplines of economics, statistics and epidemiology, training students in applied issues, while providing the theoretical foundations expected of an outstanding UCL postgraduate degree.

Dr Ricardo Silva awarded a Knowledge Transfer Partnership grant for research on sports analytics

Dr Ricardo Silva has been awarded a Knowledge Transfer Partnership grant along with Stratagem Technologies Limited, a London-based company focused on analytics for sports trading market. The grant will sponsor a Research Associate for two years, who along with the company will develop capabilities in modelling network-level effects of sport outcomes.

Dr Ricardo Silva to participate in the analysis of a massive new study on dementia research

Dr Ricardo Silva will contribute to a research initiative led by Dr Hugo Spiers (UCL Institute of Behavioural Neuroscience), with the participation of Dr Ed Manley (UCL, CASA), on the analysis the human navigation behaviour with the goal of better understanding dementia. The data used in the study, unique on its scale, will primarily consist of a massive number of gameplay hours obtained through the mobile game Sea Hero Quest, available on Google Play Store and iTunes. Participants all around the world are expected to download the game and provide information about patterns of human navigation through a series of increasingly difficult tasks.
