Dr Gianluca Baio awarded funds to conduct research on the health economic and societal impact of Pembrolizumab in the treatment of melanoma

Dr Gianluca Baio has been awarded an unrestricted research grant sponsored by Merck Sharpe and Dohme to investigate the health economic performance and the societal impact of Pembrolizumab, a treatment for melanoma that has spread or can't be removed with surgery and non small cell lung cancer that has spread and the cancer cells have proteins called PD-L1. The research will investigate the potential expansion to other indications and the impact on public funding as well clinical benefits.

The Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A has accepted the paper "Beyond Objectivity and Subjectivity in Statistics" by Andrew Gelman (Columbia University) and Christian Hennig (UCL Statistical Science) as Read Paper. It will be read and discussed at the Royal Statistical Society on 12 April. UCL Statistical Science and Centre for Data Science co-organize joint German/UK Big Data Meeting

Professor Sofia Olhede, jointly with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the Berlin Big Data Centre, organised a joint Germany/UK Big Data Meeting at the Smart Data Forum in Berlin on 1 March 2017. Professor Patrick Wolfe was also part of the delegation, and spoke of Big Network Data, and was further joined by UCL colleague Professor Harry Hemingway from the London Farr Institute, as well as colleagues from Imperial College London, and the Food Standards Agency. The Berlin Big Data Centre is part of a 30 million Euro investment by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research to support Industry 4.0, and the initiative established two centres for Big Data and IT security.
