Department of Statistical Science

Applications are invited for two PhD funding opportunities (one EPSRC studentship and one internally-funded studentship) based in the UCL Department of Statistical Science, to commence in October 2012.

Dr Simon Byrne has been awarded a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) for his project entitled "Information geometry for Bayesian hierarchical models". This will provide support for three years, with the aim of developing both theoretical understanding of the geometric structure of hierarchical models, as well as practical computational tools to make these models feasible for larger and more complex problems.

Dr Gianluca Baio has released the R package BCEA (Bayesian Cost-Effectiveness Analysis), which is now available for download from CRAN. The package, which features heavily in the forthcoming book Bayesian Methods in Health Economics (out in November this year) and allow the user to post-process the results of a Bayesian modelling to produce systematic health economic evaluations in graphical and tabular format.
