- Professor Mark Girolami will teach a course on Advanced Computational Bayesian Inference as part of the EPSRC/RSS Graduate Training Programme 2012.The course will be held at the School of Mathematics & Statistics, Newcastle University and runs from 23-27 July. This is the first of a new series of residential graduate training courses provided by the Royal Statistical Society with support from EPSRC. The courses are national and are mainly aimed at PhD students in their second and third years.
- As a member of DARPA's Information Sciences and Technology (ISAT) Board, Professor Patrick Wolfe is chairing the mathematical methods portion of the upcoming DARPA ISAT workshop on The Science and Engineering of Function-Specific Networks, to be held on 7-8 March 2012 in Menlo Park, California.
- During February 20-24, 2012 the Mathematical Biosciences Institute (MBI) will hold a current topic workshop on "Recent Advances in Statistical Inference for Mathematical Biology" organized by Simon Preston, Mark Girolami, Giles Hooker, and Theodore Kypraios.
- Professor Patrick Wolfe is co-chairing the 10th annual SPIE Computational Imaging Conference to be held on 23-24 January 2012 in San Francisco, California.
- Dr Tom Diethe is co-organising the 2nd PASCAL Workshop on Applications of Pattern Analysis in Castro Urdiales, Spain on 19-21 October 2011.
- Dr Gianluca Baio and the Biostatistics Network are organising a Symposium on "Contemporary Statistical Methods in Medical Research". The symposium will be held on 15 September in the J Z Young Lecture Theatre, UCL.
- A two-day conference to commemorate the centenary of Francis Galton's death will be held at the Royal Statistical Society on 6-7 September. Professor Valerie Isham will open up the meeting and the talks on the first day will be primarily statistical. The second day will centre mainly on Galton's biological ideas, including his innovative work on finger printing.
- Dr Christian Hennig is organising a PASCAL funded Invited session on dissimilarities and dissimilarity based methods and will be giving a semi-plenary presentation at the GfKl-IFCS (International Federation of Classification Societies) 2011 conference Frankfurt am Main, Germany on 30 August - 2 September 2011.
- Dr Gianluca Baio is organising a session within the annual Conference of the Italian Statistical Society (SIS), in Bologna on June 9th, on behalf of the Royal Statistical Society. The session titled "Recent advances in Bayesian Statistics: MCMC and Beyond".
