A randomised trial to Increase the Uptake of Smoking Cessation Services
using Personal Tailored Risk Information and Taster Sessions

start2quit is aiming to increase the number of people attending the specialist NHS Stop Smoking Services.
Most smokers say they want to
quit but only a tiny proportion make use of the free Stop Smoking Services (SSS) provided by the NHS. This
randomized trial aims to assess whether sending a brief personal tailored risk information letter and an invitation to a ‘Come and Try it’ taster session will attract
more smokers to
attend the SSS than a standard generic letter advertising the
service.
We will also assess which group is more likely to have stopped smoking 6 months later.
Ethical approval for this study was obtained from South West London REC 4 (REC ref 10/H0806/20)
