Case Study 6 - Division of Biosciences

Communications: improving engagement and celebrating success

We did:
Divisional Staff meetings are now held twice termly, followed by a social event for all staff. During these meetings annual promotions, major new awards and achievements are announced and staff congratulated. Staff are also able to ask any questions of Division management through Q&A sessions.

Research Department staff meetings are now attended at least termly by the Director and Divisional Manager. The Dean and Faculty Manager also participate in both Divisional and Departmental meetings and Q&A at least annually.

The new Divisional Research Lectures provide a showcase for our research and opportunities for staff and students interact socially.

Where are we now?:
Team Managers have started to participate in Biosciences Management Board and are encouraged to attend Research Department meetings. This is to further improve communication between professional services and academic staff.

What we plan to do next:We will develop a Divisional newsletter and review the website to improve communications further. A Divisional events calendar will be developed and placed on the website. We will also organise a professional services staff meeting to encourage interaction, communication and sharing expertise across teams.
