SSEES Student Talks is organising an exciting event with Bill Browder, co-founder of the largest investment fund in Russia, on Friday 20 March.

In the 1990s, alongside Edmond Safra, Bill Browder set up Hermitage Capital Management, the largest foreign investment fund in Russia. In 2005, he was denied entry to the country and declared a “threat to national security” as a result of his battle against corporate corruption. After Mr Browder’s expulsion, the Russian authorities raided his offices and seized his investment companies. In 2009, Sergei Magnitsky, the lawyer in charge of investigating this crime, was arrested and died in custody under suspicious circumstances.

This Friday, Bill Browder will be talking about his personal experience in Russia at the Hermitage Capital Management, the Magnitsky case, and his recently published book Red Notice: How I became Putin’s No.1 Enemy. He will also be sharing his thoughts on current political and economic developments in Russia as well as his outlook for the future.

Dr Peter Duncan will be chairing this talk. It will start at 6:30 - please make sure to arrive in advance.

Registration for this event is necessary and ID will be required for entry. Without an ID, you will not be able to attend this event.
