Course Tutors

Dr Diamond Ashiagbor and Dr Ingrid Boccardi (Faculty of Laws)

About this course

This course is mainly concerned with the law governing the institutions of the European Communities, including the Commission, the Council, the European Parliament and the European Court.

It also considers the position of other European organisations including the Council of Europe, and the European Convention on Human Rights. It aims to provide an introduction to the law regarding the structure and function of these institutions, considering the sources of Community law in the Treaties, the legislative powers of the Community, and the relationship between Community and national law.

It also considers a range of issues concerning the ways in which European institutions operate in practice, including the enforcement of Community law through actions against member states, and the scope for judicial review of Community action.
