Sir Christopher Kelly - MPs' Expenses and Allowances
22 January 2010
In the wake of the MPs' expenses scandal, the Chair of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, Sir Christopher Kelly, discussed his Committee's recent Report on the future of MPs' expenses.
Since it was published in November, the Report's recommendations have generated considerable discussion and debate within Westminster.
The Report
recommends, among other things, that MPs should no longer be reimbursed
the cost of mortgage interest payments; MPs should no longer be allowed
to appoint family members to their staff and pay them with public
funds; and that MPs who live within a reasonable commuting distance of
Westminster should not be able to claim additional accommodation
expenses.
