Introduction

Daniel Stevens trained in political science at the London School of Economics and has a doctorate in development studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

His research interests hinge around the concept of civil society and its relationship with international development actors, the state and the private sector, focusing on the region of Central Asia. Between 2005-2009 he was Head of Research and Consultancy at Westminster International University in Tashkent and worked as a consultant with the United Nations and other international NGOs and he is currently Head of Research at the Institute for Volunteering Research, UK, and a research associate at the Centre for Contemporary Central Asia and the Caucasus, SOAS.
