Research Interests

Orlanda’s research focuses on the intersection of ‘race’/ethnicity and gender in news coverage of UK and US elections. Responding to increased diversity among lower house candidates in both countries, the study analyses how election news coverage varies among candidates from different racial, gendered groups. The analysis also addresses how racial, gendered frames and stereotypes are manifested in coverage of minority ethnic female candidates. Orlanda’s interests span many aspects of gender and political behaviour, particularly women’s political representation and representations of women in politics.
