SPANISH LANGUAGE I
This is a post A-level course. Please note that there is no ab initio language teaching in this Department. The course makes every attempt to embrace all of the Spanish language's varieties.
The first year language course consists of four main elements: Prose, Comprehension, Oral and Grammar.
Students will be assessed on coursework, a three hour written paper and an oral examination.
You are strongly advised to purchase John Butt & Carmen Benjamin, A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish (London: Arnold, 3rd ed. 2000), as well as a Collins or Oxford Spanish-English / English-Spanish dictionary.
Other language resources students should consult on a regular basis include: the Real Academia Española for peninsular Spanish and the Diccionario panhispánico de dudas for some of the main South American varieties.
Follow these links for more information about language resources and self-study.
