15 September 2009: Revised HTA Codes of Practice, and new Code of Practice for Research are now in force.


18 August 2009: The updated Human Tissue Authority (HTA) Codes of Practice have been approved by Parliament and the HTA expect to publish them in September 2009. In the interim, the revised versions can be downloaded via the HTA website.


10 August 2009: Human Tissue Authority public meeting on 24 September 2009.  Places at the meeting are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to attend, you will need to register witht the HTA by Monday, 7 September 2009.

HTA Designated Individual training - human application sector: Slides of the training event held on 25 March 2009 (Birmingham) are now available.


16 April 2009: The HTA has moved away from fixed-term licensing system to a continuous licensing system. UCL DIs / PDs should have received the HTA communication licensed establishments to let them know about this change. UCL / DIs are not required to take any action as a result of the change.


6 April 2009:
In March 2009, the MRC launched an information sharing resource for MRC Designated Individuals (DI), their Persons Designated (PD) and MRC funded Tissue collections. Non-MRC DIs and PDs can register with the MRC to gain access to the portal - further information will be uploaded in due course. Useful link: MRC Regulatory Support website.

(external) HTA call to researchers to help improve human tissue regulation. The HTA has launched a consultation on the first Code of Practice produced for those who store human tissue for research. More info can be accessed here.

14 May 2008 (internal): The UCL HTA compliant MTA (Version 2.0, 1 May 2008) is now effective. Version 1.0, 17.10.07 has been withdrawn. Please ensure that Version 2.0 is used for any human tissue or cells released from a UCL HTA licensed bank/collection.

1 May 2008 (internal): The UCL HTA compliant MTA (Version 2.0, 1 May 2008) has been updated by UCL Business and will be available after the next UCL HTA Governance Committee meeting on 14 May. The revised MTA further enhances specific clauses and will supersede the original MTA: Version 1.0, 17.10.07.


30 April 2008 (external): The collection of cord blood at birth will be regulated for the first time in the UK. From 5 July 2008 cord blood can only be collected by personnel with specialist training and on premises that meet essential standards. The new rules come into force to ensure safety and traceability of material. More information can be accessed via the HTA website.

14 April 2008 (external): The HTA issued a regulatory alert (002/2008) to all human application establishments. The alert relates to Medfor Femoral Head Storage Pots (S400). Further information can be accessed via the HTA website.
