Profile

Research Description

My main research interests are in primary care epidemiology and trials of complex interventions in primary care. I am currently working on a series of epidemiological studies in the fields of disease risk/prevention, mental health, older people and health inequalities. Many of these studies are using large primary care databases, GPRD/THIN (see publications). I am also working on the development and RCTs of complex interventions in primary care, in particular in the fields of disease prevention, older people and primary care mental health. Current examples include developing interventions to promote well-being in later life (funded by MRC LLHW Phase3), an NIHR Programme grant to develop and test assertive management of cardio-vascular disease risk in people with severe mental illnesses and Problem-Solving Treatment for people newly registered with visual impairment.  I am an adviser for the NIHR Research Design Service, London and PRIMENT UK-CRC Registered Clinical Trials Unit.
