Research Description

My particular  expertise is in the evaluation of health care / public health interventions and policies across the NHS.

Major themes of my work are
1. the determinants of health service use;
2. examining the relationship between health care inequalities and health inequalities across socio-economic and other groups (particularly age and gender);
3. developing and experimentally evaluating interventions to reduce the socio-economic gradient in health care use;
4. the evaluation of health care and public health programmes, with particular reference to variations across socio-economic and other groups;

5. analysis of NHS policy;
6. clinical decision making in areas of uncertainty.

I am Chief investigator on the following major research programmes:

Director of NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC): North Thames

Designing and evaluating strategies to reduce the social gradient in health service use: ASCEND Project (NIHR Applied Programme Grant)
