Research Description

Over the last few years, association mapping of disease genes has developed into one of the most dynamic research areas of human genetics. The central aim is to identify genes which contribute to complex diseases. My current research focuses on complex inheritance and specifically in the development and application of association mapping methods using metric linkage disequilibrium maps that increase both power and resolution. I am interested in candidate regions and Genome-Wide Association mapping (GWA) and am currently analyzing various GWA data sets in order to identify new polymorphisms associated with human diseases.

Education Description

I am currently giving various lectures and tutorials for the Biological Sciences degree program, Medical School and for two MSc courses. The topics vary from introductory lectures on human genetics, methods for human disease gene mapping and linkage disequilibrium in human populations. I am also the organizer for the Introduction to Human Genetics course (2nd year Biology).
