Research Description
Research in the Perinatal Neuroscience group centres on 3 strongly interrelated themes:
(a) Identification of the molecular causes of perinatal brain injury, particularly in cerebral palsy, a still unsolved problem of perinatal and neonatal medicine with profound clinical, educational and social implications and
(b) Developing new therapeutic strategies, including pharmaceutical agents, vectors and embryonic or adult stem cells to prevent or reduce damage, as well as to promote neural repair.
(c) Studies on molecular signals involved in successful regeneration in the adult peripheral and central nervous
(d) system, needed for strategies to improve repair in spinal paralysis.
