UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences

A team led by scientists at UCL, funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and AVI BioPharma, have made an important breakthrough in the development of a treatment for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

Plans to build a new research centre at UCL have been approved by London Borough of Camden, subject to referral to the Mayor.

The UCL Institute of Child Health and partners have secured a five year, £4.6m grant from the Department of Health Policy Research Programme, to lead a new Policy Research Unit in the Health of Children, Young People and Families (abbreviated to CPRU). The Unit was formally launched on Wednesday 20 July at the UCL Institute of Child Health. 

A fossil from north-eastern China has revealed that terrestrial reptiles were giving birth to live young at least as early as 120 million years ago.

Players of the game rock paper scissors subconsciously copy each other’s hand shapes, significantly increasing the chance of the game ending in a draw, according to new research.

Dr Carlos Carmona-Fontaine (UCL Cell and Developmental Biology, 2010) has been awarded the 2011 Beddington Medal by the British Society for Developmental Biology (BSDB).
