Jonathan Fishman 2

Congratulations to Dr Jonathan Fishman, MRC-Sparks Clinical Research Training Fellow at the UCL Institute of Child Health, London, who won the Wesleyan-Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Young Trainee of the Year Award, 2012.

With 5 shortlisted previous specialty winners bidding to win this prestigious prize of £3000, there was an extremely high standard of presentations. The winner was selected by an eminent panel of judges including Sir Mark Walport, Director of the Wellcome Trust and Sir Michael Rawlins, RSM President.

Dr Fishman says: ‘I am truly honoured and privileged to be awarded this prestigious prize, especially amongst such accomplished clinicians across all medical and surgical specialties. I plan to put the prize money towards my ongoing research into tissue-engineering therapies for devastating conditions that affect the head and neck. I would like to extend my thanks to the MRC Sparks Children's Charity and the Royal College of Surgeons of England for enabling me to perform this important research, as well as my PhD supervisors Professor Martin Birchall and Dr Paolo De Coppi.'
