Two webcams were
installed in UK's Silicon Valley (M4 corridor). The first, in February
2005, was installed in a window of hi tech company Cadence
in Bracknell, Berkshire in Silicon Valley (right).
This camera was in place for over 12 months from February 2005, harvesting
images over the course of the year.
The work explores the relationship between landscape, time and technology.
Each image has been collected from top to bottom and left to right in
horizontal bands continuously, with different tonal horizontal bands recording
fluctuations in light and movement throughout the day and with broad bands
of black depicting nighttime. Stray pixels appear in the image where a
bird, person, car or other unidentifiable object may have passed in front
of the webcam as the pixel was captured.
A selection of these images can be found in the archive
section of this website.
Fenlandia in Bracknell was realised with additional support from South
Hill Park Arts Centre and the live full screen image was projected
in the South Hill Park Atrium in 2005.
