Winning design commissioned for UCL Engineering Department's Roberts Building.

In 2011 UCL Engineering Department commissioned students from the Slade School of Fine Art to design a 12 floor digital artwork for the Roberts Building main stairwell. The initial projects submissions were narrowed down to five shortlisted artists (Haruka Ono, Edward Fox, Katie Aggett, Linda Antalova and Bentley Farrington), who received £200 to further develop their submissions.

The winning artist was Katie Aggett, who designed a mural which aimed to reflect and embrace the architectural style of the Roberts Building. Her inspiration came from 1950s/60s graphic design and science textbook symbols and graphics and the colours and shapes found in engineering equipment. Katie Aggett said " it was a wonderful experience to work on such a large project especially being able to work alongside the contractors, architects and printers involved."

Further information about the shortlisted artists can be found on the UCL Engineering website.
