Sofia Bordin – MA/MFA/PhD

I create sculptural installations as tools of defamiliarisation by harvesting symbols and languages from folklore and popular traditions. In doing so I investigate spaces of belief, collectivity and landscapes of the ‘marginal’ from past histories and residual cultures. In the intrinsic interferences between the domestic, the public and the theatrical, I explore the capacity to generate and inhabit myth through new modes of emotional resilience and community formation. I employ a range of media- altered in their material state- from found objects and organic matter to metalwork that reflect points of passage and contact between transient times and potential worlds, suggesting sensitivity to the mechanisms of imagination, as devices of care and resistance.
I'm currently living and working in London.
