Martine Poppe was announced as the winner of the Provost's portrait competition, to commemorate the end of UCL Provost Malcolm Grant's term of office, funded by UCL alumnus Mr Vincent Cheung. The result was announced on 25 February 2013.

The competition, which was open to students and recent graduates of the Slade School of Fine Art, took the form of a sketching session last summer, from which five finalists were chosen: paintings by Martine Poppe, Ishai Rimmer, Sorcha Williams, a photograph by Thomas Jenkins and embroidered panel by Tom Worsfield.

Martine Poppe's winning painting received a prize of £5,000, the joint second place prize of £2,000 was awarded to Thomas Jenkins and Sorcha Williams, while runners up prizes of £1,000 were awarded to Ishai Rimmer and Tom Worsfold.
