Argentine Film: 1985 to the present
Course code: SPAN4410.
Course unit value: 0.5.
The course introduces students to a broad range of Argentine film from the immediate post-dictatorship period to the present. Several of the films deal in an overt way with remembering the 1976-1982 dictatorship, foregrounding issues of trauma, denial or resistance, or engaging self-reflexively with questions of memory and representation. Other films deal with questions of difference – sexual, racial, and bodily – and refer in different ways to mechanisms of (state) repression in society.
Assessment: one 3000 word coursework essay (40%); and one unseen two-hour written examination (60%).
Tutor: Dr Deborah Martin
