Course unit value: 1.0.
SPAN4001 is an advanced level language course designed for finalists. It consists of five components: (a) translation from Spanish to English, (b) translation from English to Spanish, (c) translation commentary, (d) the oral Spanish class and (e) grammar. Students are required to hand in written work each week. The course aims to enrich the student’s understanding of syntax, shades of meaning, and register in both English and Spanish, as well as enhance the student’s lexical knowledge and comprehension in both languages.
Assessment: one unseen three-hour examination (65%); one oral examination (25%); and coursework including a 1000 word essay (10%).
