Engagement Monitoring

UCL's Engagement Monitoring is a procedure that:

  1. aims to ensure that all students (UK, EU or overseas) are engaging with their studies;
  2. to identify problems as early as possible to ensure that action can be taken to advise or assist the students; and
  3. ensures UCL meets the requirements set by the UK Border Agency for students with Tier 4 visas.

Futher information on UCL's policy for Engagement Monitoring is available on the webpage Engagement Monitoring (password protected).

Engagement monitoring for research students

To comply with the requirements set by the UK Border Agency for students with Tier 4 visas, School Departments, like all other UCL academic units, are required to monitor overseas research student's engagement with their research at regular intervals.

To ensure that we meet this requirment, supervisors of overseas research students should, please, send an email to the School Research Officer after each supervisory meeting. They should confirm, very briefly, that the student in question is progressing satisfactorily with their studies or, if he or she is not doing so, mention problems that need to be addressed and how they will be addressed.
