SCAN2001 - Intermediate Danish
Value: 1.0 course unit

Teaching structure: The module will consist of exercises and various tasks including text-reading and discussion. The various activities will continually be evaluated and adapted to best suit the students’ needs.
Assessment: one unseen three-hour written examination (50%); one oral examination (30%); and module assessment (20%).
The module aims to: build on and improve every individual student’s strategies and methods for language learning; build on and improve the students’ language skills in speaking, understanding, writing and reading including the basic elements pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar; and to enable the students to express opinions and discuss various topics with some fluency in both speech and writing, and to enable them to understand and read authentic Danish texts at a more advanced level of difficulty.
Preparatory Reading and Set Texts:
The textbook, Ordet er frit (Birte Langgaard; Gyldendal: 2004) will be used, along with various texts, video and audio materials, and exercises made available on the module Moodle site.
It is recommended that students have their own copy of R. Allan, P. Holmes & T. Lundskær-Nielsen, Danish. An Essential Grammar (Routledge, 2011).
- Dansk-engelsk ordbog & Engelsk-dansk ordbog (Gyldendal) or similar.
