SEEF2009 - Reading Finnish Environment, Society and Culture

one three-hour unseen written examination (50%); and two 2 000 word essays (50%).

Module Description:

This module explores central themes in Finnish society and culture through the study of Finnish texts. The module deepens the knowledge attained in the first-year introductory module by looking at specific cases which illuminate Finnish social and cultural life and the construction of Finnish identity in discourse. Topics include history and society, language, media, folk culture, literature, popular culture and the arts. Basic knowledge of Finnish language is required as the source material and documents used in teaching are mostly in Finnish.
