SCAN7203 - Extended Essay in Scandinavian Studies
Value: 0.5 course units
Module coordinator: Dr Haki Antonsson
Tutor: member of staff covering desired subject area.
Assessment: one 8000 word essay (100%).
From their study of, and increasing familiarity with, Scandinavia (or a particular Scandinavian country) and its culture, literature and history, students may wish to widen and deepen their knowledge of a particular author, trend, topic, etc. Writing an extended essay allows them to pursue independent reading and research with supportive guidance from a staff specialist. Choice of topic is subject to approval by the module co-ordinator; approval is dependent on available expertise in the Department.
This is a challenging module which requires a high level of individual motivation and
self-discipline. It is essential that you should have a clear idea about your
chosen topic before you start the module, and you should start the reading
for your extended essay during the preceding summer vacation. It
is difficult to conduct the required amount of reading and research
as well as the writing during term time.
