For the majority of scholarships, you must be in receipt of an offer to be eligible for consideration. Please bear in mind that it can take up to four weeks from the date of a completed application's being received by the department for a decision to be made, and a formal offer to be processed.
It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure that he or she applies in good time, to allow references to be submitted and an offer to be made. Applicants who do not hold an offer by a scholarship's deadline will be excluded from the competition for that scholarship.
Closing Date for Applications
Graduate Research Scholarships (GRS)
Overseas Research Scholarships (ORS)
Deadline for other scholarships, such as AHRC awards, will be added as they are released.
DUTCG004 - Literature of the Dutch Golden Age: Advanced Reading
Value: 30 credits
Tutor: Professor Theo Hermans
Assessment: two 3,000 word coursework essays (70%); and one oral presentation (30%).
The module is intended for students who possess a sound knowledge of
modern Dutch, have experience of reading seventeenth-century Dutch and
are familiar with the main literary works and genres of the period
and their historical and intellectual context. The module allows
students to extend and deepen that knowledge through guided reading of
primary and secondary texts. The primary texts are read exclusively in
Dutch and cover prose, drama and poetry of the entire seventeenth and
the latter half of the sixteenth century. They are selected so as to
build on the individual student’s past work and explore new authors,
genres and themes. Extensive use is made of secondary literature in
both Dutch and English.
