My research interests include German memory culture in the nineteenth century, nationalism and nation building, Russian literature, and travel writing.
In my PhD thesis, I analysed the historical works of Wilhelm Raabe, a leading proponent of German Realism, and compared his take on German history with contemporaneous historiographic sources. My aim was to show the vital role of cultural memory in political discourses at the time, even though the term itself had not yet been coined.
Currently, I'm working on a comparative study of German and Russian travel writing in the nineteenth century, exploring how cultural stereotypes influenced the writers' perception on the foreign culture.
