Industry engagement evening

9 December, 6-8pm, UCL

In December 2009 UCL set up the new national Security Science Doctoral Research Training centre – UCL SECReT, funded by a £7m grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). UCL SECReT brings together 20+ research groups at UCL and 30+ partners from industry, academia and government to offer the most comprehensive, integrated 4-year PhD programme for students wishing to pursue security or crime-related research.

This September the first batch of 11 students started at UCL SECReT. Over the next eight years we intend to train one hundred PhD students, fifty of them fully-funded by our grant. We expect our students to work closely with industry and public-sector organisations and to work on real-world problems.

For this reason we are hosting an INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT evening so that we can:

  1. Brief current and prospective partners of the aims, structure and focus of the centre
  2. Brief current and prospective partners on the format and  content of the course
  3. Allow the current batch of students to introduce themselves and their research interests
  4. Begin to explore interesting research problems from partners
  5. Discuss the varied means of engaging with partners
