Public engagement, professional speaking, leadership  and wider skills activities by SECReT students

As part of their training SECReT students will participate in various activities designed to help them learn a wide variety of skills, skills that will help them become leaders and genuine agents of change both within their research field and within the organisations in which they will eventually work.

This training includes leadership training (for example through leadership and management modules at the London Business School, Europe’s top-ranked business school, with which UCL has a special relationship), networking training (through structured training days and attendance at seminars and conferences), event organisations skills, mentoring skills (SECReT students from more advanced cohorts are required to mentor students from newer cohorts), and public engagement training.

Public Engagement skills Training

In today’s world all academics must be able to effectively communicate their science, not only to ensure that they have wide-ranging support for their research, but also to ensure that their research can inspire the next generation of scientists.
