Museum numbers

Almost all of the letters of Sargon's correspondence with his top officials are now housed in the British Museum's Department of the Middle East. Museum numbers are typically in two parts: the siglum, which identifies the collection to which a tablet belongs or the date on which a group of tablets was entered into the museum's registers (accessioned); and a continuous count of the tablets in each collection or accession group.
