Soldiers

The Assyrian army. By the mid-8th century BC, the Assyrian army was a standing army, consisting of professional soldiers from within the borders of Assyria and of auxiliaries from all adjoining regions.

War heroes: royal recognition for Assyrian soldiers. Soldiers who had distinguished themselves on the battlefield could expect their king to reward them richly for their bravery.
