Prior to arrival
Note: Individual guests are charged for the total amount of their stay at the time of the booking.
Q: I don't know which residence would suit me best, what should I do?
A: If you are an individual guest, we have a few residences that take individual guests throughout the summer and they are Frances Gardner House (Wren Street, Gray's Inn Road, WC1X 0HD), Goldsmid House in Victoria (SW1V 1HU) and James Lighthill House (between King's Cross and Angel, WC1X 9EN).
The Ifor Evans
site (situated in Camden Town, NW1 9HZ),and Schafer House (168 - 182 Drummond Street, NW1 3HZ) will have availability in June and August only.

Q: Can I use the residences if I have a disability?
A: Some of the residences are equipped with disabled access and bedroom. If you have a disability and would like to book a bedroom please contact us by email (or send us an enquiry)and we will do the best to accommodate your needs.
Q: What methods of payment do you accept?
A: Individual guests must book online.
For security reasons, we do not accept cash payments.
Q: What are the check in and check out time?
A: Check in is after 2pm and check out is by 10am on the day of departure. We reserve the right to charge an extra night if the room is not vacated by 10am
Q: I booked online at X residence and I want to swap for Y residence, can I?
A: Each residence is independent and bookings can not be swapped. You will need to cancel your initial booking (and therefore be liable for the administration fee) and re-book at Y residence.
Arrival
Q: I will arrive late at night, will there be someone waiting for me?
A: Residences where individual guests are staying have 24h security (office staff during the day and security at night). You must see the staff in the front office the following morning to register your arrival.
Q: Where and how do I get my key?
A: Please report to the reception office of the residence you have booked with. The reception staff will issue you with a set of keys and provide you with any relevant information about the residence (inc. security arrangements).
Guests staying at Frances Gardner House should go to the reception office at Langton Close (which is on the same site).
Guests staying at Ian Baker House are asked to go to the reception office in Ramsay Hall which again is on the same site.
Guests staying at Max Rayne House should report to the reception at Ifor Evans Hall (same site).
For they keys to be issued, individual guests will need to bring a piece of identification (ID card, passport, driving licence). The data will only be kept for the duration of the guest's stay.
Q: What are the check in and check out time?
A: Check in is after 2pm and check out is by 10am on the day of departure. We reserve the right to charge an extra night if the room is not vacated by 10am
Q: My flight / train leaves only in the evening, can you store luggage until later on?
A: Unfortunately most of the residences do not have sufficient space to offer this service. It may be possible and you will need to ask the reception office upon arrival. We will try to provide you with this service whenever possible.
Residence
Below is a quick summary of what UCL does and does not provide within its residences and bedrooms.

Q: Is there free wireless internet access in the bedrooms?
A: We do not have wireless internet in the bedrooms but some residences have wireless internet in the common room. Each bedroom is however equipped with an internet socket. Guests must bring their own Ethernet cable. Upon arrival, please ask the reception office for an internet voucher along with a set of instructions. The voucher has to be paid for online.

Q: Are the residences safe?
A: Each residence has its own entrance system (FOB, access key, door key, etc). It is however the guests' and students' responsibility to ensure that nobody is following them through the doors and to report any suspicious behaviour to the staff.
Q:I am staying in a residence that does not offer catering. Do I need to bring my own cooking utensils?
A: No. Each residence offering room only accommodation (except for Ramsay Hall) has its kitchens supplied with a limited amount of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. It is strictly forbidden to remove those from the kitchen to your bedrooms.
Q: Are the residences open 24h?
A: The residences are open 24h (see "Is there a curfew?" below) but not the reception office.
Q: Is there a curfew?
A: Once the keys are issued, guests are free to come and go at will. We are asking guests to respect the quiet hours which are from 11pm - 8am.
Q: What are the check in and check out time?
A: Check in is after 2pm and check out is by 10am on the day of departure. We reserve the right to charge an extra night if the room is not vacated by 10am.
Q: Are guests allowed in the bedroom? Can I have a guest staying overnight?
A: Guests are allowed in the guest's bedrooms. However we do not accept overnight stays. If you wish to have a guest staying with you, an extra bedroom will have to be booked. Please note that we can not add a bed or a mattress in a bedroom due to our fire regulations.
Q: Can I receive any post while staying in the residence?
A: Yes. Ensure that your name, your room number and the correct address are on the letter/parcel. Parcels will be collected by the reception staff and you will be notified that a parcel is waiting for collection in the reception office. The parcel will have to be collected during office hours.
Q: Are they TV and phone in the bedrooms?
A: No. There are pay phones in most residences. Some of the residences are also equipped with a TV room. Please see "additional details" on each residence page or our facilities page.
Q: Are linen and towels provided?
A: Yes. Linen and a bath towel are provided. They are changed weekly or in between each guest.
Q: If my hall does not provide meals/I chose not to have any meals at the time of booking, can I buy a voucher for a breakfast at another residence/at my residence?
A: Yes, a breakfast voucher can be purchased at the reception of Ramsay Hall and Ifor Evans Hall. Only Ramsay Hall and Ifor Evans Hall can provide meals.
Q: Are the rooms air-conditioned / heated?
A: The rooms are centrally heated but not air conditioned. Please note that during the summer months, the heating is not switched on.
Q: Are the rooms non-smoking?
A: Yes, all the rooms are non-smoking and all guests have to respect this rule.
Student
Q: I am a prospective UCL student, can I benefit from the alumni rate?
A: No. Only UCL alumni having the alumni card can benefit from the alumni rate.
Q: I am an alumni but I do not have the alumni card, can I benefit from the alumni rate?
A: No. Only UCL alumni having the alumni card can benefit from the alumni rate. The card is free of charge and it can be applied for online: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/alumni/benefits/membership_card. Note that cards are sent in batches every 3 months.
Q: I am a prospective UCL student attending a summer course at UCL in order to obtain a place for the coming academic year. Can I benefit from the alumni rate?
A: If you are attending the mathematics bridging course, you will be invoiced at the student rate. The extra nights will be added on your first term invoice.
Q: I am a current UCL student with a student card, can I benefit from the alumni rate?
UCL students should contact the student residences office if they wish to apply for summer accommodation. All contact information is displayed on www.ucl.ac.uk/accommodation.
Q: I am a prospective student wishing to apply for accommodation for the academic year, how do I apply?
A: You will need to contact the student residences office. All contact information is displayed on www.ucl.ac.uk/accommodation.
Micsellanous
Q: Can I rent a room (not a bedroom) at one of the residence for a day?
A: Yes. Please contact us by email.
