Project description

My PhD project focuses on investigating the requirements for a web 2.0 platform able to support communication between authorities and citizens in the disaster recovery phase. Indeed several studies have shown the importance of community engagement in the decision making of the reconstruction process. New media offer an unprecedented opportunity to involve also the most marginalized part of the population into political discussions regarding relevant topics. Nevertheless the full exploitation of the potential of these interactive technologies requires a deep understanding of the dynamics of the digital divide and of the communication that occur between authorities and citizens in the aftermath of a disaster.
