Can I send my application by post?

Can I submit one application to apply for more than one vacancy?
No. You must submit a separate application for every job for you wish to be considered for. The shortlisting and interview processes for different vacancies are independent of each other, so separate applications are required to ensure you are considered for each job you are interested in.

Can I apply using my CV?

No, unless stated in the advertisement CVs alone will not be considered. Applications must be submitted using the on-line form accessed through the UCL job search engine. You should provide all requested information in the spaces provided on the on-line application screens – no other material will be considered at the initial application stage. If any other material is required you will be given instructions at a later date.

When will I know if I have been shortlisted?
Shortlisting usually takes place between 5 and 10 working days from the closing date of the advert, after which a selection of candidates are invited to interview.

There is no need for you to contact us to see if you have been shortlisted, we will let you know if you are selected for interview.

If you are not contacted, you should assume you have not been shortlisted.

Can I get feedback on my application?
Yes, you can request feedback. If you would like to request feedback, please e-mail your contact details and the name of the job for which you applied to ras@ucl.ac.uk. We will send your request to the manager in charge of the vacancy for a response.

Will I have to complete an aptitude test as well as an interview?
For some vacancies, shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete an exercise on the interview day to test particular skills relevant to the job. If this applies to a vacancy for which you are shortlisted, you will be given details of the test when you are invited to interview.

Do I have the required qualifications, experience, skills and/or attributes for the role?

The further particulars of the vacancy will contain a Person Specification listing the essential and desirable qualifications, experience, skills, and attributes required to do the job. In order to be shortlisted for interview, your application must provide evidence that your skills, experiences and achievements are in keeping with all of the essential requirements. If you cannot demonstrate that you meet all of the essential requirements, you will not be selected for interview, so you may wish to consider applying for a different vacancy.

What staff development opportunities are there at UCL?

The UCL Organisational and Staff Development (OSD) team plan and deliver development programmes that support improved individual, team and organisational effectiveness. Further information about the work of the OSD team and the development programmes they provide can be found on the OSD website. All UCL support staff are expected to complete at least three learning events per year.

If I get the job, when would I be expected to start work?
Unless otherwise stated in the advertisement, start dates for new staff are agreed at the point of the job offer being made or accepted. If you are the successful candidate selected to fill a vacancy, the line manager of the position will discuss the start date with you at the point of offering you the job, taking into consideration your notice period with your current employer (if applicable).

What is the salary?
The salary for the job will be as stated in the advertisement and further particulars. Appointments are likely to be made on the first point of the salary scale; any exceptions to this will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Progression through the salary scale is incremental. Cost of living pay awards are negotiated nationally and are normally effective from 1 August each year.

What are the working hours?
Full time hours are 36½ hours per week and times of work are as determined by the Head of Department.

How much annual leave would I get?
Annual leave is 27 working days for a full time member of staff. UCL also closes for a period at Christmas and Easter, at which times staff benefit from a total of 6 ´closure days´ in addition to Bank Holidays. [NB/ For identified posts staff may be required to work in the closure periods, in which case these closure days are added to the annual leave entitlement].  For operational reasons, some positions within the Registry carry restrictions on taking annual leave at certain times of the year.  Where restrictions apply to a role this will be clearly stated in the terms and conditions section of the further particulars.

Yes, UCL operates pension schemes for its employees. Details of the schemes are available from UCL Human Resources Pension Services.
