QuIRC-SA

The QuIRC-SA (Quality Indicator for Rehabilitative Care - Supported Accommodation) was adapted from the QuIRC, and is the first standardised tool which assesses the quality of care provided by specialist mental health supported accommodation services. There are three main types of supported accommodation. Residential care homes are usually communal facilities which are staffed 24 hours a day and provide meals, supervision of medication and sometimes personal care. Supported housing can be provided either in shared or individual tenancies with staff based on-site up to 24 hours a day. Floating outreach services have staff that are based off-site and visit clients in their own tenancy a number of times each week.

The QuIRC-SA has been developed so that it can be completed online by a manager or senior member of staff, and is free to use.

Following completion of the QuIRC-SA, the service's ratings of quality are provided for seven domains of care (Living Environment, Therapeutic Environment, Treatments and Interventions, Self-Management and Autonomy, Social Interface, Human Rights and Recovery Based Practice) which are then compared to the average ratings of similar services in your country. [NB: for floating outreach services, no rating of 'Living Environment' is given.]

If you are a manager or senior member of staff in a specialist mental health supported accommodation service and would like to undertake an assessment of the quality of care provided by your service using the QuIRC-SA, you can register here. If you work in an inpatient that provides treatment for individuals with longer term mental health problems, the QuIRC is likely to be the more appropriate tool for you.
