Qatar Tourism Authority extends association with UCL Qatar

2 April 2017

QTA 3

UCL Qatar’s Short Courses team has been working with Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) since November 2016 to develop and pilot QTA staff orientation courses in Tourism Practices and Management.

The courses have been developed to address the wider, technical, aspects of tourism that are especially important for the development of the emerging industry in Qatar.

With Qatar becoming a more popular destination within the GCC and wider region, and with the global draw of the 2022 World Cup focusing the world’s attention on Qatar, it is timely that the Cultural Heritage sector is preparing itself, and its staff, to deliver world-class experiential and immersive attractions, supported by qualified personnel who are knowledgeable of both the industry and of Qatar’s historic past.

Mr. Omar Al Jaber, Director of Shared Services, Qatar Tourism Authority, commented: “I would like to express our sincerest gratitude to UCL Qatar for providing their time and expertise to our new-comers and staff members. QTA is home to a diverse mix of experiences and backgrounds, and offering a deep understanding of the tourism sector, the different types of tourism and the core of Qatar’s tourism sector strategy is critical to helping us maximize these skills and tap into their full potential. The feedback from our teams who attended this course is resoundingly positive, and we look forward to continuing to provide this well-rounded orientation to our new-joiners in the coming year.”

Due to the success of the initial sessions, QTA has asked UCL Qatar to prepare a second set of courses that will be offered to QTA staff during 2017. These courses will be designed to build on those taken previously and will broaden the knowledge of attendees in line with their diverse experiences by continuing the focus on areas such as tourism definitions and concepts, different types of tourism, tourism through time, special and alternative forms of tourism, cultural tourism, and tourism and tourism sector strategy in Qatar.

UCL Qatar, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is committed to delivering the very highest quality of Continuous Professional Development to all our partner organizations.
