Dr Stavroula Golfomitsou elected as IIC Fellow

Dr Stavroula Golfomitsou

Dr Stavroula Golfomitsou, Lecturer in Conservation Studies at UCL Qatar, has been elected to the highly prestigious position of Fellow at the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC). The IIC is an independent international organisation supported by both individual and institutional members. Established in 1950, it serves as a forum of communication for professionals in conservation, promotes excellence in conservation and preservation of cultural heritage and raises public awareness of related issues. Fellows are elected by the existing body of IIC Fellows.

Ancient Egyptians made jewellery from meteorites

Research led by UCL Qatar’s Director, Professor Thilo Rehren, in collaboration with UCL Institute of Archaeology and European colleagues has shown that ancient Egyptian iron beads at the UCL Petrie Museum were hammered from pieces of meteorites.

Qatari student reflects on Cultural Exchange Programme

Nahil Al-Askari, a student on the MA Museum and Gallery Practice degree programme at UCL Qatar, recently concluded a three week placement at the iconic Manchester Museum in the UK. Nahil was one of over 60 young professionals involved in the Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture, Cultural Exchange Programme, which offers students and heritage professionals a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in a placement or residency in the UK or Qatar.
