Dr Franca Cole

Dr Franca Cole is a Lecturer in Conservation Studies at UCL Qatar. She lectures on introductory and advanced conservation practices, ancient and modern materials, and the technology and deterioration of artefacts. Her research interests include conservation approaches to the deliberate fragmentation of artefacts, the design and implementation of sustainable conservation practices for developing nations, the long-distance trade of beads and textiles, and theoretical approaches to human-artefact interactions.
Dr Cole holds a PhD and MPhil in artefact use in the mortuary archaeology of Borneo from the University of Cambridge and a BSc in Archaeological Conservation Science from the UCL Institute of Archaeology, London. Prior to her PhD she worked for over 15 years as a freelance conservator, in museums and on a range of archaeological excavations countries including Malaysia, Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Peru, Chile, India, Norway and Greece.
