The Laboratory for Protein Crystallography
The laboratory for Protein crystallography is headed by Professor Steve Wood and our research is focused on protein structure & function and structure based drug design. Our major research effort is focused on structure based drug design related to amlyoidosis, but we are also involved in a wide range of projects.
The laboratory was newly refurbished in 2009 and hosts a Bruker X8 prospector diffractometer and a Mosquito nano-litre drop setting robot for crystal screening with small amounts of protein. We have well equipped microbiology and biochemistry laboratories for protein expression in E. coli and subsequent purification. We also have access to tissue culture facilities for eukaryotic expression systems.
