Peter Fonagy
Peter Fonagy, PhD FBA is Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis
and Head of the Research Department
of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology at University
College London. He is Chief Executive at the Anna
Freud Centre, London.
He is a clinical psychologist and a training and supervising analyst in the British Psycho-Analytical Society in child and adult analysis. His clinical interests centre around issues of borderline psychopathology, violence and early attachment relationships. His work attempts to integrate empirical research with psychoanalytic theory.
He holds a number of important positions, which include chairing the Postgraduate Centre of the International Psychoanalytic Association, and Fellowship of the British Academy. He has published over 400 chapters and articles and has authored or edited a large number of books. His most recent books include: Affect Regulation, Mentalization, and the Development of the Self (with G. Gergely, E. Jurist and M. Target - published 2002 by Other Press), Psychoanalytic Theories: Perspectives from Developmental Psychopathology (with M. Target - published 2003 by Whurr Publications), Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: Mentalization Based Treatment (with A. Bateman - published 2004 by Oxford University Press), What Works For Whom? A Critical Review of Psychotherapy Research (fully revised and updated 2nd edition with A. Roth - published 2004 by Guilford), Mentalization Based Treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder: A Practical Guide (with A. Bateman - published 2006 by Oxford University Press), Mentalizing in Clinical Practice (with J.G. Allen & A. W. Bateman - published 2008 by American Psychiatric Publishing) and Social Cognition and Developmental Psychopathology (with C. Sharp & I. Goodyer - published 2008 by Oxford University Press).
