Date: Thursday 15 November 2012 Time: Seminar - 17.00 – 19.30; Reception - 19.30 – 21.30 This is the inter-faculty collaboration by the Psychoanalysis Unit bringing together staff at UCL with an interest in psychoanalysis. After the seminar, you are invited to a reception in the Wilkins North Cloisters, UCL. These seminars which are held once a term, form part of a wider project of collaboration, both formal and informal, between staff and students in different departments at UCL. John Keene How to Do Things with Words (and Feelings and Actions) John Keene trained at the Institute of Psychoanalysis and The Tavistock Clinic, and is currently in full time private practice. He is a co-editor of the recently published "Independent PsychoanalysisToday ". He is a Training Analyst and also works with unconscious processes in groups and organisations. His paper "unconscious obstacles to caring for the planet" given as part of the Psychoanalysis at the Science Museum conference series is now published in "Engaging with climate change: psychoanalytic and interdisciplinary perspectives" (edited by Sally Weintrobe). Sharon Morris (Head of the Doctoral Programme, UCL) Gospel Oak Sharon Morris is head of the doctoral programme at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. Her field of research, Words and Images, encompasses critical texts using the philosophy of C.S. Peirce and psychoanalytic theory; video and live performance reading; and poetry. Gospel Oak, her second collection of poems, will be published by Enitharmon Press in January, 2013. Daniel Miller (Professor of Material Culture at the Department of Anthropology, UCL) Creating Mothers through New Social Media Daniel Miller is Professor of Material Culture at the Department of Anthropology University College London. He is currently carrying out a five year ERC project on the impact of Social Network Sites and other social media on seven countries and writing a book about the impact of Skype. Recent books include 2012 Ed. (with H. Horst) Digital Anthropology. 2012 (with M Madianou) Migration and New Media. 2012 Consumption and its Consequences. 2012 with (S. Woodward) Blue Jeans. 2011 Tales from Facebook. Lesley Caldwell is a psychoanalyst in private practice. She is a member of the BPA and the IPA and a guest member of the BPAS. She is a Honorary Reader in the Psychoanalysis Unit where she coordinates the interfaculty seminars, teaches on the MSc in Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies and contributes to the doctoral programme. She is an editor for the Winnicott Trust and its Chair of Trustees. Her most recent publications are Reading Winnicott, with Angela Joyce, (Routledge/New Library teaching series) 2011, ‘Italian, Psychoanalysis, and the Humanities,’ (Journal of Romance Studies, special issue) edited with Francesco Capello 2011, Rome: Continuing Encounters with Past and Present (Ashgate) co-edited with Dorigen Caldwell 2011.
