Information for new MSc Language Sciences students

If you have not already, you should shortly receive an email from UCL Registry and Academic services detailing the pre-enrolment process which can be completed before arrival at UCL.  This will allow you to make your official UCL enrolment as quick and easy as possible and also has some information on the payment of fees.

All new MSc Language Sciences students should attend the welcome meeting on Tuesday, 24 September 2013, at 2 pm in Chandler House, after which students will meet their Programme Director, and receive further information on their programme of study.

A timetable of induction events for MSc Language Sciences students is available here.  International students should note, particularly, the Study Skills session held on Thursday 26th September 2013.

A welcome party with drinks and light food will be held in Chandler House at 4pm on Wednesday 25th September 2013.

Communication

A Facebook group is available for students studying one of several programmes at Chandler House.  The group is intended to allow students to get to know each other before the programme begins and students have found it useful in the past.  The group is not moderated by UCL staff.

Timetable

The flexible nature of the MSc Language Sciences programme, which allows students to choose optional modules from all those offered in the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences module (within limits) makes production of a timetable in advance complicated.  Each student is likely to have a very different timetable so producing a single timetable for all students is not possible.

Times and locations for mandatory modules are shown below:

Term 1

  09:00 10:00
11:00 - 13:00
13:00
14:00 - 16:30
Wednesday     HCSCGH10: Introduction to the Brain and Imaging the Brain
(All students)
HCSCGH11: Research Methods; Principles Skills and Applications
(All students)

Term 2

  09:00 - 11:00
11:00

Wednesday         HCSCGH11: Research Methods; Principles Skills and Applications
(All students)
Thursday
HCSCGH20: Neuroscience of Language

Core and optional module timetables can be viewed individually through the Faculty Course Database, this is a good way to see whether individual modules will fit into your schedule, but once you enrol you will have access to the UCL Online Timetable which will show times and locations for all your selections in one place.

If you have difficulty navigating the database or would like some help with module selection before you arrive at UCL, please contact Pete.
