Research Interests

My PhD project is an experimental investigation of categorical perception and production of handshapes in BSL handling classifier constructions. The project compares the differences and similarities in perception and production of handling handshapes between deaf native BSL signers and hearing gesturers in order to reveal what the linguistic properties of handling handshapes are and to what extent they overlap with gesture. In addition, I am involved in a project led by Dr. Kearsy Cormier and Sandra Smith "Expression of Perspective, Location and Motion in British Sign Language(PaLM)" looking at how deaf adults and children with various signing backgrounds use the space around them when signing BSL.
